Froth flotation is one of the most important processes involved in the selective separation of valuable minerals from gangue minerals. The behaviour of particles and their interactions with frothers in the froth phase is a critical but poorly understood step in flotation.
This project seeks to further the understanding of the chemistry and physics of flotation froths leading to improved strategies to:
- increase froth recovery of valuable minerals
- decrease the recovery of gangue minerals by entrainment
- increase the effectiveness of frothers by reducing their consumption in processing
- provide a scientific basis to quantify froth phase performance as a means of assessing alternative frothers for specific applications.
