factoryThe necessity for this project was highlighted in recent conferences in Brisbane and Johannesburg, which discussed process schemes that target “dry processing” or significantly water free treatments.

Concurrently, AMIRA and international copper producers conducted a Copper Technology Roadmap, which placed a top priority on “Dry Processing Technologies” because of the arid and semi-arid climates in which copper is produced.

This project comprises a six-month multi-contributor review study to determine the current status of dry processing worldwide, in the mineral and other material processing industries. It will also report on the problems of dust minimisation and management likely to be associated with dry ore processing.

The work is being carried out by a team involving staff from the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC), the RWTH University of Aachen's Department of Mineral Processing, and the University of Nottingham's Mining and Minerals Centre.
