The Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) is a world-renowned mineral processing research and postgraduate teaching centre which has been working with the mining industry for over 45 years. It is located at the University of Queensland mine site in Indooroopilly, Brisbane. The JKMRC and the associated technology transfer company JKTech Pty Ltd provide leading-edge research and specialist services and products to the minerals industry in over 30 countries.

The Role: Postgraduates at JKMRC work in integrated research teams that are addressing key issues (including sustainability) for the future of the mining and minerals processing industry. These include process modelling and characterisation technologies for comminution, classification, flotation and liberation analysis. Students gain hands-on experience with processing plants through plant surveys and data collection at mining company sites worldwide. Both Research Masters and PhD degrees are offered. JKMRC graduates are in high demand and command substantial salaries upon completion of their degrees.

The Person: You should have an Honours degree or equivalent in engineering, maths, physics, chemistry or earth sciences/geology and it is essential that you can clearly demonstrate research potential. An interest in high quality research leading to industry innovation is also essential. Early career professionals with industrial and/or research experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Scholarships of up to AUD43,900 per annum (tax exempt) will be offered to suitably qualified graduates. The JKMRC will pay the tuition fees for international students who are engaged in full time study at the JKMRC, unless other funding mechanisms have been obtained.
